"Tee Shots, by Tim Rosaforte
Golf World sources confirm reports of growing discontent among players that PGA Tour administration -- fueled by Annika Sorenstam's decision to play the Colonial -- is putting promotion and political correctness ahead of competition. More and more members would like to know why it is socially acceptable for the LPGA to be "women only -- at birth," while the PGA Tour would be labeled sexist for adopting the same form of discrimination. With other invitations on Annika's plate, the male pros don't want their tour turned into a "circus."
There's making putts and then making them when it matters. Only Tiger Woods and Ernie Els are doing the latter right now. "You can hit it 400 yards, but you've still got to make putts," Tiger said of Els. "He's making every single putt inside 12 feet. He has buried each and every one of them." No offense to Ernie, but nobody matches Tiger when it comes to hitting shots when it matters. On the 11th hole Sunday at Torrey Pines, Woods hit his 4-iron 231 yards for a kick-in birdie. End of ballgame. As an exclamation point four holes later, Tiger drew it through the trees, over a bunker, and parked it 20 feet from the pin. This putt didn't matter, but he made it anyway.
Dana Quigley. Dave Barr. Vicente Fernandez. The Champions Tour. Hey, it is what it is: Great guys, wonderful stories and the best commercials in golf, but it's still the Senior Tour. "
