So What Is A Better Life...Mommy/Daddy/Buddy? The RG Network's sites at the Guideto.info domain are the weak "sister of our publishing. Most of our traffic comes from search engines and for some reason it appears that our domain name or perhaps some other factors results in the various domains to not be indexed. Some people suggest that you need to have a .com name to truly have results with search. Others suggest that domain type has no impact at all and the content is the only factor.
A makeover of the domain and the sites is in order, to address all possible causes, and we've already begun. The Guideto.info domain will become "Your Guide To A Better Life" with various prescriptions and directions by itself and to our other resource sites we specialize in. All other sites will be reviewed, with some purging and some new ones. It's my little 30 day challenge as publisher/editor. Make this domain a fully functioning part of the network, not some weak "brother".
But now I'm stuck. What is a Better Life? So I'm off for a couple of days to see Grand Forks North Dakota at its busiest with Obama and Hilary Clinton in the city on the 4th, and the World Curling Championships and associated partying beginning on the 4th, with games starting on the 5th. And it's for business, I'll tell my accountant we do have a Political News site and a Curling Product News site. By the end of the little junket, I'll hopefully have some thoughts on the "A Better Life"...money, travel, job, homes, love, family, hobbies, beauty, education, life in balance.....

My lady friend/lover said, "what a perfect title" ...about how couples need to approach the major issues that arise from time to time in their relationship. I had just told her that this book-I Love You, Let's Work It Out by David Viscott had just sold from my library at the ever growing Redeux Products online store. Search our inventory for this and other relationship books here.
We too have had our share of difficulties, and we are learning a bit along the way how to keep ourselves together. It starts with feeling like you were meant for each other and remembering the big love (and passion) that was easily acknowledged between you two, we believe. It also starts, we believe, with accepting the commitment you made earlier and taking responsibility for what it entails. I see Viscott saying much the same thing as I page through the book quickly before it goes out the door to help another couple hopefully.
He quotes Shakespeare the flyleaf, "He love not who does not show his love". I liked the Happiest Couples short poem that ends the book. "The Happiest Couples share a unique view of the world. The happiest couples are partners in a destiny they create together No one is bound to be what the other cannot achieve Each is his own person and free The present is without debts. The moment is without fear The answer is I love you. The question is unimportant"
Viscott also devotes a large chapter to sexual relations. He says in another way what I know from experience and in my layman ways have suggested couples give equal or even greater effort and focus to as well as all the other things that need atttention.
Viscott, "It has often been said when sex is bad it is a very large part of a relationship and when sex is good it is a very small part." I suggest that the effort and time spent is as important as the end results. Viscott suggests couples could prepare a lovemaking-sexual relations manual. I think this could be part of their relationship notebook or folder, which most definitely has to have pictures of the happiest most loving times. The sex relations manual would include the couples thoughts and feelings on the following, he says 1. Our Erogenous Zones-the map of love 2. What Excites Me..You 3 How our feeling of romance help our sexual relations and what are they 4. What turns us off? 5. Planning spontaneity 6. How I need you to love me 7. Sharing fantasies-and acting on them 8. How should we experiment and continually grow our sexual relations/lovemaking.
So plan your spontaneity and plan to talk and write. Are these the seven most powerful words for people in a relationship? "I Love You...Let's Work it Out" If not, what is? Comments? Have a great day! B

Fat Loss For Dummies or Idiots.. Is there such a thing?
Fat loss is one of those things that sounds easier than it really is.
After all, if you just eat less calories than you burn, you'll lose fat, right?
Not necessarily. You could be burning muscle, which will turn you into a weak blob of quivering fat if you stay on that diet long enough.
And even if you do burn fat, does that mean you have to be hungry all the time?
There is a TON of disinformation out there. One person says to follow a low carb diet, another says to follow a low fat diet, and someone else says low calorie is definitely the way to go.
Who knows?
Here's what the Fat Loss For Idiots folks say:.
Here are the facts...
Low Fat Diets DO NOT Work...
People have been on low fat diets for two decades, yet there are more overweight people than ever before.
What many folks don't seem to realize is that your body NEEDS certain fats to function properly, and even to LOSE weight.
That's right... you will lose weight, and lose MORE of it, if you are eating the right amount of certain fats.
So FORGET low fat diets, they simply DO NOT WORK.
Low Calorie Diets DO NOT Work...
This is hard for most people to swallow, but the fact is, eating too few calories is the WORST thing you can do to your body.
Starving yourself SLOWS DOWN fat burning.
So while you may lose a few pounds initially, you will then hit a plateau and all weight loss will STOP.
Worse yet, when you increase your calories, your body will pack on MORE fat as a safety measure in case you starve again. So you'll likely wind up weighing MORE in the long run by using a low calorie diet.
Low Carb Diets DO NOT Work...
People love low carb diets for the first week or so, because they see that scale needle dropping. But do you know what they're losing? Usually water and muscle.
Then reality kicks in. Who can continue to eat nothing but meats and vegetables, especially when it's making you so tired?
Low carb diets are extremely difficult to stick to. And again, once you go off the diet, you're likely to gain all the weight back and then some.
Programs such as Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig are somewhat better...
These types of programs result in slower weight loss, and some of them involve buying special meals that are expensive and don't necessarily taste very good.
While better than the first three types of diets, these diets are still not the best.
So what's the answer?
An Accelerated Fat Burning Program such as the one found in Fat Loss For Idiots program...
As I'm inclined to do most of the time, I like to look quickly at the "how to" books and other personal development books, as well the others too. It's a great side benefit of an online bookstore-"tidsbits of knowledge daily based on what other people are voting for with their pocketbooks". The book that got a bit of my attention today was "Super Self-Doubling Your Personal Effectiveness" by Charles Givens. A very nearly new condition hardcover by the way of this 1993 book which is what we try to do to distinguish ourselves in a crowded marketplace. Very good condition used or like new copies. Givens is known for his wealth books and seminars in the 80's and 90's
His Success Strategy No. 1 is worth repeating. Most of us who need personal development and growth have failed at some things or something. We have made many mistakes. To make quantum leaps forward we may have to rely more on the experiences of others who have been successful than learning from the "school of hard knocks" which has been our own life. We keep going back to old methods and habit that repeat our problems and I can say with experience based just on relationships in my past. Or look at your choice of jobs or business activities.
His strategy based on the notion that doing more of what doesn't work won't make it work any better is "Learn From The Experiences Of Other, Rather Than Your Own". This will cut the learning curve time frame and the change curve in your life dramatically, he says, and I tend to agree. Learning the right methods to personal and business effectiveness and having them become formed habits in the shortest possible time, as opposed to the trial and error of our own experiences, is the basis of the "Super Self" as he calls it.
And with that I carry on with my day. Make one key change in your life today based on what you know or see successful people doing regularly! I concur with Givens, you won't regret it.
Recently the book "Finding the Fountain of Youth Inside Yourself" by Shad Helmstetter (ISBN 0671746200) left for a better home. Search for it or similar gently used and nearly new books, music and movies here .
Helmstetter's message to those of us who feel that we might have lost our way a bit over the years is that we need to need to recapture our "inner youth" and rediscover our enthusiasm for life. I always have a bit of time for good pop psychology. Most of us can take some thoughts from someone else and see where they might apply. Where I stop is some wholehearted devotion to a particular author, psychologist or belief. I'm more electic and a mix and match type of person. However, something or somethings, (a book or books, a series of events, an inspiring message) have to get us out of our ruts of life if that's what we want. Most of us do. We just don't or can't seem to get started effectively. Try again. Once moving, the intertia is strong. Here's a checklist for Helmstetter's book that you can copy and paste on your bathroom mirror (or whatever works for you) for a quick reminder. If it's not this, put something else on your computer desktop. Keep some focus and I hope you have a great day.
1. I create joy in my life everyday 2. I am curious and interested 3. I always keep an open mind 4. I do new things and different things 5. I spend time with people who are truly alive 6. I smile often every day 7. I am learning to laugh more every day 8. I bring my sense of play to life everyday 9. I am learning more now than ever before 10. I always have many things to look forward to 11. I choose to wear the magic glasses of truth 12. I review my progress as I watch my Inner Youth come to life stronger and livelier each and every day

Sent in my entry for the Winnipeg Blue BombersCanadian Football League, fan Fantasy Camp, today at Winnipeg Stadium to 92CitiFm locally, a great classic rock station I get my sports and morning fix in every day. Told them I was a fan for life, since late 50's and early 60's team glory years under Bud Grant. I was just a kid and my father took me to after Grey Cup celebrations. About the same time I caught on with Hank Aaron and the then Milwaukee Braves and have been their fan and Aaron my sports hero every since.
Also said I wanted to see if this team was for real and if we had had a real change of talent and attitude, especially since Winnipeg is hosting the 2006 Grey Cup this year. How will I tell? But it sounded good in the entry. So my mid 50's body but in not too bad shape, is off in a few minutes to live a dream fantasy-practice with pro footballers who I will be watching all year.
Pictures and stories to come. Movie deal later! Watch for BlueBombersBlog coming soon

Like Hockey, Curling used to be dominated by Canada. So we send over coaches and teach the world, and now they are beating us as often as we beat them. It get’s my attention in winter and ranks right alongside golf as two sports you can watch...and doze or read or work and still enjoy and stay on top of the game developments.

It's Tour Championship Time For the Best 30 Golfer's on the Men's Tour. The end of the line for this year officially. With not much on the tube to compete with it, it will get a lot of eyeballs this Thursday through Sunday.
The Tour doesn't appear to want to sit still, which I applaud. Golfers will be debating the new mega-championship proposal commissioner Tim Finchem announced yesterday.
Many golfers, no matter what ability level, will be thinking next year, next season. for changes they want to make in their game. This program from one of our blog sponsors Is worth looking at.
This is the fishing article I noticed today and referred to in an earlier post. I heard the same stuff on a fishing show on CJOB radio last night while working so the buzz is getting around for certain. Search for "Cats on the Red", Stu McKay, if you're reading this and are interested in coming up here. Or just search for Manitoba Tourism. The Winnipeg Free Press - front Manitoba walleye hook U.S. anglers Thu Oct 27 2005 EAST SELKIRK -- The best greenback walleye fishing seen in years in this area is luring plenty of greenbacks -- the American dollar version. Yesterday under beautiful blue skies, warm temperatures and no wind, anglers on boats and on shore were reporting trophy size catches of walleye -- Most Manitobans call them pickerel -- just by dipping their lines in the water of the Red River for several kilometres on both sides of this community. "The fishing here is just wonderful," said American angler Larry Tish, who came all the way from Cheyenne, Wyoming, to drop a line in the water. "It's just great right now," he said as he leaned back in his boat, waiting for the next nibble. "The other day I got five walleye which were over 27 inches. It was probably my best day of fresh water fishing ever. One was probably 31 inches and weighed 14 pounds.
"I told a friend of mine that day is something people dream about." From the last week of September to roughly the last week of October, the walleye which have spent the summer in Lake Winnipeg swim up the Red River following their food source. Unlike walleye elsewhere, these fish, from living and eating in Lake Winnipeg, pick up a distinctive translucent green tinge on their backs seen nowhere else, giving them the nickname greenbacks. Tish said he's not the only American up on the Red River trying to land this year's not-so-elusive trophy sized walleye. He has bumped into compatriates from Arizona, Montana, Wisconsin, Minnesota and North and South Dakota. "This is the best walleye fishing I've ever been at, bar none."
My Library looses Fishing in the West-A Guide to Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, by David Carpenter, a signed by author copy even. Now that I'm thinking fishing, I'll post an article from the local Winnipeg paper later which I saw today quoting the American fisherman who come up here, describing current walleye fishing on the Red River as the best ever.
It's worth checking out the fishing and hunting in the three prairie provinces in Canada and even further north if you want to fly in. We'll post some recommendations soon. More reviews of other fishing and wildlife books will be coming as well. Suggest your favorite books in the Comments or send email to me.
I'm a novice horseplayer for the past couple years after a chance trip to the track on a date...and thoroughly enjoying it. The education they plan to do to help educate the potential betting public caught my public relations/marketing communications professional eye. If you want to sell, be prepared to educate first, most times. We went to a seminar the Downs held this summer and caught the fever. $10 each for a seminar and nice meal on a Friday evening, with a hot date, and a chance to bet on the races with a bunch of expert horse players all around you....it didn't get any better than that....at that moment in time. Now we've got a chance to win the same amounts as others by getting into the pools directly. I may have to get the cable or satellite horse racing channel back earlier than the start of our next spring- summer season here, next year. Horse racing may be the next poker...oh well, not likely but it should be.
Downs hopes new rules attract fresh bettors Wed Oct 26 2005 By Paul Wiecek
MANAGEMENT at Assiniboia Downs yesterday unveiled an ambitious new project to turn some Manitobans into millionaires. And they plan to do it with New Yorkers' money. Downs operations director Darren Dunn told a news conference at the Portage Avenue thoroughbred track that a change in the way Canadians bet on horse racing in the U.S. has the potential to generate huge -- possibly unprecedented -- payoffs for Manitoba horseplayers. And Dunn said management at the non-profit track is determined to teach its customers how to go get all that new money with a series of betting seminars with top local horse players, an online seminar that is coming soon to the Downs website and an aggressive recruitment drive aimed at teaching new horse players how to get in on the action. "We're on a mission," Dunn said. "We're going to make Manitobans the highest rated, best handicappers in the world."
And the mission starts immediately, with Saturday's Breeders' Cup -- the world championships of horse racing -- providing the first big opportunity for Manitobans to cash in on a rule change that, beginning today, will allow bettors here to wager directly into the pools at New York tracks, including Belmont Park, host of this year's Breeders Cup.
Tom Starr, Vice-President, of the student-athlete recruiting service College Prospects of America, who I've worked with previously in assisting Canadian student-athletes (particularly Manitoba and Saskatchewan based) get quality sports and educational experiences, advised me yesterday that the NCAA has announced significant changes regarding the Clearinghouse. Most are effective immediately.
Firstly, the fee for Clearinghouse registration has been raised dramatically (Tom's words) to $75.00 effective September 1, 2005. Presently it is at $50.00 U.S. Anyone who sent the old processing fee to the Clearinghouse after that date will receive notification that the fee has changed and they must pay the new one.
Next, the paper Student Release Form that has been provided to international students for many years has changed. The NCAA is now using one universal form with a "check-box" for the student to mark whether they are a US student or an International student. Student-athletes and parents can register and pay the fee by credit card online at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net.
From that homepage, click on "Prospective Student Athletes" and the user will have an option to complete the domestic or foreign Release form online. The trend for the Clearinghouse, like most other bureaucracies, is going "paperless". They would prefer the Release Form be completed online but they will still accept the paper form. .
Lastly, all student-athletes, US and International, who register with the Clearinghouse beginning in the spring of 2006 (exact date has not yet been announced) and who graduate from high school in the year 2007 or after, will be required to answer questions about their Amateur status. At the 2006 National Convention in January, NCAA Division I and II will formally adopt legislation to create an "Amateurism Clearinghouse" to determine if student-athletes have held onto their Amateur standing before being certified to compete as a student-athlete at a Division I or II school.
This creates a new bureaucracy to potentially investigate each student, which explains why the Clearinghouse fee has risen so dramatically says Starr.
Starr explains how he sees the new Amateurism Clearinghouse operating. When a student registers for the the Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse (the one in use now), and if they do so online, they will be directed to complete a questionnaire on the Clearinghouse Website that will ask if they have signed contracts with professional teams, accepted prize money above actual and necessary expenses, and other questions that could put them at risk as an Amateur. This questionnaire will then be submitted at the same time as the Student Release Form that they complete for the "current" Clearinghouse that deals with their academics.
If an athlete does not register for the Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse online but rather uses the paper form, we have been told they will be e-mailed and informed that they must go to the Clearinghouse Website to complete the Amateurism Questionnaire online. They will need to remember the 4-digit PIN (Personal Identification Number) that they write down on the paper form to access their record on the database, so it's a good idea to copy the paper form and keep it somewhere safe, it appears to me.
The new NCAA Guidebook reads on page 5 that the Amateurism Questionnaire must be completed by anyone who enrolls at an NCAA Division I or II school in the fall of 2006, but the NCAA has just announced that has changed and they will begin certifying on Amateurism issues for those who enroll in the fall of 2007.
Editor's Choice: Our Favorite Travel BlogsBy The Frommer's Staff October 12, 2005
In 2002, William Safire acknowledged the word "blog" in his New York Times Magazine column, "On Language." In 2004, the word "blog" was Merriam-Webster's #1 word of the year. The noun, short for weblog, was defined by the dictionary as a "site that contains an online personal journal with reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer." Yes, blogs, and the art of writing one -- blogging -- have officially entered our lexicon. But truth be told, the world of travel blogs is vast territory, and we look forward to continuing to explore cyberspace in search of more quirky and informative online travel journals. Who knows? We might even start our own blog at Frommers.com. In the meantime, here are a few of the blogs that we currently read (okay, truth really be told, a couple of these might not exactly be blogs, but we couldn't resist adding them for their blog-like feel and useful travel tips). If you have a favorite travel blog, we'd love to hear about it on our Message Boards. And we'd also love to hear about what you'd like to see on a possible future Frommer's blog.
This is a post I made about two weeks that I posted to one of my website. I've decided I'd like to share the message more widely.
Last week, I gave blood, took part in the Terry Fox Run raising money for cancer research, and also the Rock for Relief fundraiser by the Canadian Red Cross/92 Citi Fm and Two Small Guys with Big Hearts Trucking raising money for Hurricane Katrina relief. A couple of quarters for a panhandler, a few more bucks here and there for other causes that approached, and lot of thinking about making a difference. Who is this masked man, others asked? The World's Rearranger (thank you Robert Plant)
A funeral for a fine young man, Dustin Hickie, 16, a close friend of my daughter, touched me deeply. Why is the answer to cancer's ravages still so elusive? There is so much more I can do in my life on earth to help others, even a bit, and I knew my effort had been weak at best so far.
So I gave myself a kick in the pants with the help of Dustin and my friend Del and my father and others who have gone before. But it still begs the questions, why does it often take someone leaving this world to get us to act? Why are we so insulated? How can we, as individuals, act against the pain and suffering, hunger and illness without turning ourselves inside out again and again with feelings of hopelessness and helplessness? How can we stop the tears for a while and see the lights of hope again?
The opportunities to to make a difference will appear, if we keep our eyes and ears open and we find out what touches us personally. What brings tears to our eyes and sobs to our chest? Or just get involved. What is the first thing we think of in the morning...the last thing at night. Your passion for these things will keep you coming back.
It took the death of a young man I didn't know well, but I liked, far too early in life, to give me better focus. Other events had hurt but did not have that effect. In this way he lives on with me and my daughter. You will find inspiration in your life to make a difference if you look.
He needed 11 at-bats after a season-long layoff to hit No. 704.
Bonds moved one homer closer to Hank Aaron's record of 755 with a solo shot Friday night in the slugger's fourth start of the year, and Todd Linden singled in the winning run with one out in the ninth to lead the San Francisco Giants over the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4.
'It's good when you win. It just makes it a little more gratifying, that's all it does,' Bonds said. 'I can hit a baseball. I've never had any problems doing that. I'm trying to do it when we win games.'"
MSN Money - The best and worst states for taxes You need to read this if you have any options at all about where you will be living. Did you know that 15 states tax Social Security benefits?
Legislator Jim Bunning said in his statement before the House Committee on March 17, 2005 that in his experience players didn't hit more home runs in their late 30's than they did in their late 20's. His time in baseball is long time past of course, the time of Aaron and Mays, but it's the time of my youth and my love affair with the game.
Performance enhancing drugs has severely tainted the sport and the heroes of the present, and past decade. Will professional baseball get a grip on the use of steroids and other performance enhancing drugs? Will professional sports and professional athletes everywhere send the right message to youth athletes? Will parents, coaches and doctors be able to prevent more suicides among youth?

I saw this last night. We loved Festival Express. You won't be disappointed with Lightning in a Bottle if you have any little bit of affinity at all to the blues. There is also a CD available.
Pebble Beach is this week. I love that tournament. Bill Murray is usually the star of the show on Saturday. Then comes the golf test on Sunday. The golf season is well underway. Winter is coming to an end soon. More and more folks are starting to think about how they are going to get their golf game in shape this season. There are many resources available to you. The key I've always felt is to practise regularly and to adopt a system for your play and practise. I may have mentioned this previously but I just received a note from Jack Moorehouse, who has a best selling golf ebook, "How to Break 80...And Shoot Like the Pros." He says the price will go up soon, but in the meantime you can get a special bonus that seems right on target for most of us and appropriate to what I said early about a practice system: "25 Lessons To Improve Your Game Immediately' plus more. The book also has got a 90 day guarantee he says. (We are a marketing partner of Jack's just so it's clear). Click here to see the How to Break 80 book offer . As I said before, my advice is to find a system or method and/or teacher that you will trust fully to get your game to the next level. What books, teachers or teaching methods have you found useful in the past? Let us know in the comments.
So when someone dropped me a note and said there's a simple way to make money by looking to another blog, in a moment with nothing to do, (probably after the Super Bowl) I took a look at the site.
The InstantGuru Blog, by Allan Says was surprising enough in that I actually found several articles waiting that I deemed useful material. Says, who is well known online for his work with a membership site, The Internet Marketing Warriors, has come up with a viral way to get his blog known in short order, get tons of backlinks for search engine food and additionally give financial incentives to link to him.
So for that I say well done and a strategy well thought out. If you're like me, looking for good ideas, and always open to new ways to use internet tools such as weblogs and generate income online and offline, you should take a look too.
Here's a sample of some recent posts taken from his site's RSS feed, which you can subscribe to at his site.
This book was excerpted in the January 10th issue of Fortune. Here's the link. Got my attention. I expect it to be hot with the Boomer Generation. Good advice for all of us, however.
